I Went to 50 Estate Sales in 30 Days — Here's What I Learned
One month. Fifty sales. Hundreds of miles. Here are the patterns, surprises, and hard-won lessons from an estate sale marathon.

It started as a challenge: could I visit 50 estate sales in a single month? Here's what I discovered about the treasure hunting world — and about myself.
The Stats
- 50 sales across 4 weekends plus a few weekday evening sales
- 1,247 miles driven (thank goodness for route planning)
- $342 spent on purchases
- Estimated resale value of purchases: $1,800+
The Biggest Surprises
Thursday preview sales are goldmines. Some estate sale companies offer early access on Thursday evenings. The crowd is smaller, the pressure is lower, and you get first pick. I found some of my best items at these previews.
The kitchen is underrated. Everyone rushes to the living room and bedrooms looking for jewelry and collectibles. Meanwhile, vintage Pyrex, cast iron, and mid-century kitchen gadgets sit in the kitchen waiting to be discovered. Some of my best finds were in kitchens.
Sellers remember repeat buyers. By my third visit to sales run by the same company, the staff recognized me. They started pointing me toward items they thought I'd like and even gave me first dibs on a few pieces. Relationships matter in this world.
What I'd Do Differently
Start earlier. The 8 AM sales were always the most productive. By 10 AM, the serious buyers had already been through. Plan your route to hit the early sales first, then work your way to the later-opening ones.
The Verdict
Fifty sales in 30 days was exhausting — but absolutely worth it. I came away with incredible finds, new friendships, and a deep appreciation for the stories behind every item at every sale.
